Ever feel like what your doing in a certain place , is just the wrong place to do it? And even if you keep forcing the issue that the more resistance you get ? Ever feel that even if you do get an inch or two ahead that even the few that dig what your doing is out numbered by those who feel its best not to have the who or whatever in their town or even County or even to the degree not in their state. One of our members the one of a very few who live in MHI, said one day , that as much as ya’ll want to move home, its never quite like it was when you move back as it was when you left. There was an hour that came in 1984 at a conclusion of a discussion with a major performance automotive publication , that was even willing to supply the model talent, for a feature of ye ole Gen Lee as a 4X4 version, that the crew at the Hazzard Garage had built. All we needed to do was supply the airfare for the model at a sultry $400.00 . Which was cheap by today’s standards. One of the Knytes said why have her come up here, why not pay some honey here the same $400.00 and be done with it. The crux of the story was neither the feature nor model transpired. Had I just bit my lip, sent the $400.00 who knows how much further we would have advanced. For reasons beyond my vision, putting hot bodies with even hotter rides seems to be one of those things that those in local media feel is either porn or borders on porn. Not saying I’m ignorant to the concept that such major publications such as EasyRiders or even Truckin, Mini Truckin Magazine’s have displayed women in distasteful ways. Not showing anything except a string bikini is not very flattering, and I agree makes it much more difficult for those of us attempting to fix that stereotype. Case n Point. When the AyreWolvez decided to recruit model talent for aircraft nose art, we had ideas of skin fitting flight suits, and albeit short skirted but flattering and decent shots of gals with aircraft. Likewise in the case of the Knytes-of-Anarchy our brother organization when we thought of shooting film and video tape of our trucks and rods with models, we had envisioned, short , shorts, heels, halter tops and even full length gowns, and going as far as nothing more than what a gal going out for a rodeo queen contest at the Hazzard County rodeo would wear. Have the outfit and model enhance the ride and theme rather than override or detract from the ride. In this case its the ride that is being featured , not the model. Plus having something that could be seen on the wall in a home even being viewed by a wife, would not be thrown out or migrated to the garage. Yet try as we might that Idea goes to no show or a bunch of time wasted to complete such a thing. Now some might ask if its so difficult why even travel down that highway? Because if your spending money on a TV ad, the spicier you make the ad , the more of a chance that your intended buyer of product is going to see it. Example: If your a male corpuscle early in the morning , coming in from doing morning farm chores to watch AG/DAY or U.S. Farm Report, what is going to capture your attention better? Another generic ad, voiced over by the same guy who voices all the rest of the ads on TV all day? Or a hot gal in a hot blue or pink flight suit standing beside a Air Tractor pitching why you should call 737-WOLF when your wanting to have AyreWolf Aviation squirt your fields , or do precision air agriculture? Like wise if your either an aircraft enthusiasts group or hot truck club, wanting to gain the attention of a 18 to 35 year old male on the CW to join your club, which will get that attention better, another , call 1-800 number, generic ad, or one that tastefully but yet spicy gal in a cheerleaders or say a 1960’s style car hop outfit telling your intended new potential member to join the club? Or even come to your shop to buy product or service. Spike TV has Courtney Hansen doing the hosting the PowerBlock each week, Speed TV has Charity Hodges hosting American Thunder, why? Because guys are guys, and nature says a hot gal pitching the product or show gets males like us to watch. While Danica Patrick is a top notch driver in the IRL series and all, still do you think its an accident that she is the pitch gal for GoDaddy.com ? So why the resistance by a local TV station or stations to feature such. I got in this cat fight yesterday with a good friend at one of the stations that has been as hard to move as the most stubborn Mule, about not exploiting women. Yet I can remember not too long ago a car dealer in MHI , by the way, that does not even get the local CW from KMVT but watches it from KNYN out of Boise, that hosted a local audition try out for America’s Next Top Model. Is there a difference here? If CBS or any station were to air a Miss America pageant there are locals that think that’s wrong , even I do. Hell I think any gig that features gals in bikini’s is just plain overly sexual. I’d much rather see a gal in a tight pair of Wrangler Cowgirl Cut jeans a white blouse, good looking Justin Boots, and a flattering hat, that I would a gal in a swim suit. But the local stations air the program. And yet the same station says no to us? I’m sure that Twin Falls Hot Rod Shop, Snake River HD, and others would really spend on TV ad money if there was more availability of female talent tastefully dressed to pitch their shops and products. Yet the same station will pitch a fit if one suggests such thing. A more aggressive TV station in this market would level the ones who refuse to look beyond a few prudes and Victorian views and look at what sells. Should there be an agency or broadcast school here? I say yes. But there will be many who would say there just is not enough work here to warrant such a thing. I say if the people with those skills were available the work would be there. The reason there isn’t , is because there are no trained people to fill those jobs. Can you say AyreWolf Television on CH-38 ? Its being worked on. The question is; is it worth it. As they say on TV , film at 11:00. So are we as a club and I in the wrong place with such off center projects, or is it flat, just us?
